Tropical Dry Evergreen Forests (TDEF) were once widely spread across large areas, but due to rapid urbanization, deforestation, and human activities, they have now become fragmented and limited to small isolated patches. At present, only a few remnants of TDEF remain along the East Coast of India. These remaining forest patches play a vital role in maintaining biodiversity, supporting native flora and fauna, and preserving ecological balance, making their conservation extremely important. Understanding the ecological importance and vulnerable nature of TDEF, I, along with my friend Mr. Ram, initiated a nursery named “Uyir Moochu (Life Breath)”. The main objective of this nursery is to conserve and propagate rare, threatened, and endangered plant species native to TDEF. Through this initiative, efforts are being made to protect native species, restore degraded habitats, and raise awareness about the urgent need to conserve Tropical Dry Evergreen Forests for future generations.
