Native Fish Conservation
We actively restore ponds and lakes connected to Tamil Nadu's rivers by introducing native freshwater fishes to revive and protect important local species, removing invasive non-native fishes that damage the ecosystem, and adding native aquatic plants to enhance water quality, provide shelter, and support natural breeding. Native freshwater fishes play a crucial role in river ecosystems through nutrient cycling, natural water purification, control of algae and insects, maintaining balanced food webs, and supporting aquatic birds, otters, and other wildlife. Protecting native fishes means protecting Tamil Nadu's rivers and wetlands.
